What My House Actually Looks Like Right Now (For ADHD Moms)

If you’ve ever wondered what an ADHD home actually looks like day to day… not the cleaned-up version, not the after photos… just real life, you’re not alone. Because most of the time, what you see online isn’t the full picture.
In this episode of The Gentle Reset, I’m walking you through what my home looks like right now, what I stay consistent with, what I don’t stress about, and how I reset spaces when I have the time and energy.
It’s Not All Done at the Same Time
Here’s the mindset shift I want you to hear:
My home is not always clean.
There are still piles sometimes.
Toys come out and stay out.
Not everything is done at the same time.

Right now, there’s a full Barbie setup in my living room.
And a few years ago… that would’ve stressed me out a lot more.
But now?
I don’t expect everything to stay perfect.
Because I know we’ll reset it.
Not immediately.
Not perfectly.
But at some point, we’ll bring it back to baseline.
And that’s what works for me.
What I Stay Consistent With
Instead of trying to keep up with everything all day…
I focus on a few resets that make the biggest difference.
The biggest one for me is my nightly kitchen reset.
That’s the one thing I stay pretty consistent with and it changes how my mornings feel.

I like waking up to:
clear counters
dishes done
a kitchen that feels ready for the day
But during the day?
It gets messy.
Dishes pile up.
Things get used and left out.
And everything gets done one time at night.
That actually saves me time and energy instead of trying to keep up with it all day.

The Systems That Keep Things Moving

Another reset I stay on top of is our drop zone.
When the kids get home, I go through their backpacks right away.
Papers.
Lunches.
Folders.
Most of it goes straight into the trash or recycling.
The rest goes into temporary bins where I know I’ll come back to it.
Because paper piles up fast.
And if I don’t deal with it right away, it builds up quickly.
What I Don’t Stress About

There are things in my home that are not “done”… and I’m okay with that.
Paper is one of them.
I have systems:
bins for the kids papers/artwork
wall organizers for important papers
But moving everything into long-term storage?
That doesn’t happen as often as it “should.”
And I don’t stress about it.
Because I know where things are… and I’ll get to it when I can.
Laundry is another task I sometimes ignore on purpose.
Right now, I have clean laundry sitting in a basket.
Towels in the wash.
I do pre-sort when it comes out of the dryer, so it’s easier later…
I just don’t always put it away right away and that’s okay.
What Resetting Looks Like for Me

Recently, I realized my bathroom drawers hadn’t been gone through in…
honestly, probably a year.
So I went through them drawer by drawer.
Cleared everything out.
Wiped them down.
Got rid of what I didn’t need.

I didn’t plan it.
I just noticed it and had the energy to do it.
I took breaks.
Didn’t rush.
Didn’t try to do the whole bathroom.
Just my stuff.

And after that, I even moved on to my essential oils and reset that space too.
It took a couple of hours…
But it felt good.
This is what it looks like for me...
Not doing everything all the time.
Just resetting things when I have the time and energy.
And it’s also what I see that works really well for my ADHD clients.
You Don’t Have to Keep Up With Everything
If you’ve been feeling like you need to stay on top of everything all the time…
You don’t.
You don’t need a perfect home.
You need a home that’s easy to reset.
And if you’re thinking, “I want my home to feel more manageable like this,”
that’s exactly what I help with!
