The ADHD Summer Drop Zone Reset That Makes Camp and Pool Days Easier

One intentional setup... done in one sitting... can make the entire summer feel more manageable. This blog walks you through a simple 3-step summer drop zone reset, a quick mindset shift to help you stop overthinking where to start, and a free checklist you're going to want before camp and pool season is in full swing.

In this week's episode of The Gentle Reset, I want to give you something really practical...

a one-time setup that makes your whole summer feel more manageable. Not a full reorganization. Not a big overhaul. Just one intentional reset that pays off every single morning for the rest of the season.

The Mindset Shift That Makes This Feel Doable

Before we get into the steps, here's the mindset shift I want you to remember:

You don't need to reorganize everything.

You just need to reset for the season you're actually in.

A lot of times we look at our homes and think we need to overhaul everything before we can feel better. But that's not what this is. This is just swapping out what's no longer serving you right now and making room for what you actually need this summer.

One intentional setup. That's it.

And it makes everything that comes this summer so much easier.

The 3-Step Summer Drop Zone Reset

Your drop zone is whatever space you have near your main entry point of your home:

  • your entryway

  • mudroom

  • your garage

Everyone's looks a little different and that's okay.

Here's how to transition it from school mode to summer mode in one sitting.

🏠 Your Summer Drop Zone Reset

  1. Clear out what you don't need anymore.

Coats, backpacks, school folders, permission slips from March... if it's not something you're reaching for this summer, it doesn't need to live here right now.

Put it away, donate it, or toss it.

Just get it out of the space.

  2. Set up for what you actually need.

Think about what summer looks like in your home... camp bags, pool bags, towels, sunscreen, water bottles, flip flops.

These are the things your family reaches for every single day, so they need a home that's easy to grab from and easy to return to.

    - Give each person their own hook if you can.

    - Add a bin for clean towels and pool supplies

    - Another bin for wet swimsuits coming back in

    - Keep shoes contained near the door

  3. Make your on-the-go bags ready to grab.

Instead of scrambling to pack a bag every time, have what you need already prepped and ready to go. The goal is that anyone in your family (including your kids) can walk in or out without needing to ask you where anything is.

Why This Changes Your Whole Morning

This is something I think about with clients who are constantly on the go... running between activities, traveling for work, always out the door.

And one of the biggest things that helped wasn't a huge decluttering session.

It was just having what they needed ready to go.

When things were prepped and had a home, they felt more productive, less frazzled, and they stopped forgetting the important things.

And that same idea applies to summer at home. When your pool bag is already packed and hanging on a hook, when your kids know exactly where their camp bag goes, when you're not spending 20 minutes looking for sunscreen every single morning... your whole day changes.

And this isn't just about you.

When your kids have a simple system they can follow on their own, it takes so much off your plate. They feel more capable and independent and you feel less like you're managing every single detail.

Key Takeaways

  • You don't need to reorganize everything, just reset for the season you're in.

  • A one-time summer drop zone setup makes every camp and pool day easier.

  • When your kids can follow the system too, everyone wins.
