Moms! A Solution to the Toy Madness.

Allison Converse

Have you ever heard of the “dumping bin affect”? You know… we've all been there if you have kids! You kid goes into the playroom and starts dumping ALL the bins of toys out all over the floor. It becomes a HUGE MESS!

It's super overstimulating and frustrating! You end up just closing the door because you don't want to deal with the mess. My kids used to do it too.

Did you know… ? Kids need to know where their toys live or it can lead to heightened emotions for both parents and kids. Kids can become super overwhelmed when they can’t find their favorite toys.

With school out and kids home more- there are going to be more messes to clean up (unfortunately).

Here’s what Moms are saying…

“Walk in, walk out, close the door ✌🏼 😂”

“The constant mess. I just wanna give up picking up 😂

I don’t know how some moms have such clean houses”

“My kids won’t even play in it 😑😂”

Maybe you have tried to declutter your kids’ toys but… NOTHING has worked! Toys just keep accumulating and it becomes unmanageable. The toys are literally spilling out of bins and scattered ALL over your home!

You feel like a failure and you’re frustrated and overwhelmed by the mess. You just don’t know where to begin or what to get rid of because your kids will be upset. You haven’t had success in the past when you tried to get rid of toys, so why try again

It’s so much easier to just shut the door and not think about it rather than deal with the mess. Cleaning up after everyone else gets exhausting and frustrating!

I know you don’t know where to begin, you’re frustrated, and overwhelmed with your kids’ toys. I know how crazy your play space is! Because I’ve been there!

This is normal, but it doesn’t have to be your normal anymore.

Did you know that as Moms, you are the GATEKEEPER of your home??

You have control over what comes in and what goes out of your home. You know what your kids play with and don’t. Decluttering your kids' toys will actually lead to less clean up and more time to do what you want to do!

LESS TOYS + LESS CLEAN UP = MORE TIME

Did you know?? Kids are also negatively affected by overcrowded playrooms. Excess toys can lead to overstimulation, increased overwhelm or anxiety, decreased focus & attention, and more mess. This can be even more problematic with neurodivergent kids.

“Lack of organization isn’t the problem. The problem is the amount of toys!”

So, how many toys is too much??

It depends on 3 things: space, storage, and your kid.

Your space is the room/area your kids play in. And whether you have a playroom or not, you still have toys in your home located somewhere (their room, living room, etc.) Our home doesn't have a designated playroom either, but we still have toys and a system that works!

Storage is your system of organizing toys. Do you have a closet, cubes, cabinets, etc? You don’t want overflowing bins and that’s what most playrooms look like!

You kid is the most important aspect of assessing the toys they have because it affects them the most. Your kids’ developmental age, neurodiversity, and temperament/personality all play a part in how many toys they actually need.

I understand your struggles with the toys in your home, because, well, I've been there! I have two kids (4 & 6) and the constant mess, chaos, and overstimulation is very REAL

Let me normalize something… it is NORMAL and OK to have some mess in your play space. But when it leads to the “shut the door mentality” where you rarely clean up because you're completely overwhelmed. Or your toy bins are overflowing with too many toys to keep up with.

That is where it becomes a PROBLEM.

Lack of clean up, lack of systems/organization, and excess of toys can lead to MORE MESS than you can handle. It can also lead to burnout, increased irritability, and increased overstimulation for YOU

Some of the main issues I hear from Moms:

  • Too many toys

  • No home for the toys

  • No system

  • Constant mess

  • Not knowing where to begin

Not to mention the negative effects on your kids (as I already mentioned above) like decreased focus/attention, overwhelm/anxiety, and inability to find the toys they actually want to play with

Just so you know… you're NOT ALONE! This is a common issue in most homes. But I have a solution for you!

You want these things for your kids’ toys…

  • Simple, organized

  • Kids know where toys go

  • Easy clean up

  • Kids to help with clean up

  • Easy to reorganize playroom after play

You can take back control of your toys.

There is a solution to the toy madness.
