Mom Life Stress
I was YOU! I was a working mom of 2 little kids. Overwhelmed with the chaos of daily life. Why is being a mom so stressful?!
The overwhelm of STUFF all over the place.
All the TOYS that just were thrown around the house.
The piles of clothing that just took up space.
All the papers covering the counters and spilling out of files.
My anxiety and stress were through the roof!
This is where my decluttering journey began…
Downsizing Our Home
I looked around my 3000 sq ft home at all the STUFF taking up space, overflowing, and causing me increased anxiety. Deep down I knew I needed to make some major changes.
I started learning about minimalism and living with less to create more value and time in my life.
I slowly began to get rid of things. I would sell baby toys/clothes on Facebook or donate them.
It started out as a trickle…
Then I took it a step further and started going through each drawer, cabinet, space, and room in our home. Anything extra, taking up space, or not being used- I got rid of it!
The more we got rid of, the more we questioned “WHY?” …
Why do we need this extra bonus space that we rarely use?
Why do we need this second couch or TV?
Why do we need a huge office that stores junk?
What about the guest room that’s rarely slept in?
Why do we need SO MANY cups, bowls, & plates?
We needed a fresh start.
A NEW beginning.
Less mess, less stress.
At the end of 2021, we ultimately decided to downsize our 3000 sq ft home to 1600 sq ft. We basically got rid of half our belongings and gained an acre of land. This was a HUGE decision, but the BEST decision for our family. Within a 2 month time frame, I left my job, bought our home, and renovated our new home before moving in. We moved away from the hustle and bustle for new beginnings and less “stuff.” I don’t regret it at all!
Now I’m not saying everyone HAS to get rid of half their stuff or move. This was just something my family needed. Decluttering and making changes in your home looks different for every single individual. Some just need a little push to begin the process, others need to jump ALL in and make some major changes in their lives. The choice is yours.
Finding My Purpose
Through the pandemic, I did a lot of soul searching for my purpose.
I started to discover who I was again and not focus on what others thought of me. It was a crazy several years with a LOT of changes and stress not only professionally but personally.
My passion for mindset shifting and advocating for your mental health has deepened over the past several years. I see the importance of seeking help when needed especially during this time of isolation and unknowns.
I left my job as an Occupational Therapist (OT) to pursue this dream. I realized through this transition that I really enjoyed decluttering and teaching others on how they can do it too.
I initially began to pursue professional organization. I dug deeper into my purpose and discovered I didn’t want to just go into homes and do it for you. I wanted to coach and mentor moms to replicate my simple strategies.
I realized my organizational, communication, and goal setting skills from being an OT for 10 years could help others on the journey of discovering balance in their home and life. It’s amazing how things transpire when you put your head into a dream.
Busy Mom Battles
Besides discovering a need to declutter in my own life, I realized how much other MOMS desired to declutter too. This is where I began to see busy moms struggling with the same issues as me- stress, anxiety, overwhelm with STUFF, and burdened mindsets.
Moms are:
trying to make decisions about how to organize ALL your kids toys
totally overstimulated by your home environment
too tired to do anything extra at the end of the day
struggling to make time for yourselves because of the never ending workload and roles of motherhood
Sometimes you just feel STUCK.
Trust me, I was one of those MOMS too!
I struggled with the amount of STUFF we owned that took up space. The fatigue at the end of the day that left me feeling purposeless.
I get it!
I started casually sharing about my decluttering WINS and mindset shifts. Friends and family started asking questions about how to declutter their kitchens and other spaces in their homes. They said they needed to declutter, but did not know where to begin. They needed help!
Listening to their struggles of feeling overwhelmed and anxious made me want to take it a step further. I wanted to empower other busy moms to create PEACE in their home and life through decluttering. I wanted to help GUIDE busy moms to calm the clutter in their MINDS.
So, this is WHY I’m here on this decluttering journey with you.
