School is starting back soon (or maybe just started) and your kids’ room and work spaces are a mess! You’ve tried a system and it hasn’t stuck. Stuff keeps piling up! You’re overwhelmed and anxious (and so are your kids). You want your kids to be able to focus and be more productive in their workspace. To know where things belong and have easier clean up.
Yes, it is possible!
Whether you homeschool or not- your kids have a designated space they do school work. That space is easy to get cluttered with piles of stuff that don’t have a home. You want them to be more focused and productive!
Clutter actually does the opposite!
Clean up can be easier and kids can know where things belong.
5 Tips to Prep for Back to School:
1)Organize snacks for easy access and to improve independence.
Encourage your kids to help you pick out and pack school snacks (and lunch). It’s less work for Mom if they can grab a quick after school snack on their own! Also, make sure kids can open containers, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. before school starts.
2)Create a lunch packing station and decide to pack lunches the night before or in the morning.
Store lunch boxes, bags, and other lunch supplies all together so you don’t have to search for what you need (wasting time you don’t have). Decide if the night before or morning works better for packing lunches. Encourage the kids to help!
3)Create a digital or wall family calendar
This is helpful for keeping track of appointments, sports/ after school activities, and school schedule. And keeps everyone in the loop!
4)Create a morning/evening routine checklist for each kid and post it outside their rooms.
This isn’t for every kid, but it works well for mine. We also post weekly school schedules and a magnet calendar that they can help change day, month, and weather daily.
5)Easy Drop Zone Tip!
Grab 2 bins/baskets from the Dollar Store (or find them in your home) and store them by the shoes.
1- extra socks, stuff that needs to go to the car, sunglasses, etc.
2- dirty socks/clothes when kids get home
We have all experienced the chaos of getting ready in the morning and then...
one kid says "I forgot my socks!" (not again!) and have to run all the way back upstairs and search for a matching pair of socks... making you late!
It's the worst when you're already running behind! Having extra bins by the door/shoes for those items you may forget (like socks) saves you SO much time during the morning hustle!
**Bonus Tip-
Get up before the kids for some “me” time to meditate, journal, or simply drink your coffee in peace. Your mornings will go smoother when you’re in a better headspace.
5 Favorite Amazon Back To School Supplies:
Bento Boxes (click here)
Bento Boxes are all the rage the past several years and they’re great for making your own lunchables. I honestly think it saves us money in the long run. Plus, it keeps all the food separated! The boxes linked above are great because they’re easy to open/close, keep liquid from spilling into other compartments, and can be put in the dishwasher.
Reusable Bags (click here)
Save money and get rid of ziplock bags for good! We love these reusable bags to store snacks in the car or grab a quick snack for on the go.
OR Snack Container (click here)
These have been golden for taking snacks to camp and will be great for when they start school. I love that it gives the option to store two snacks!
Ice packs (click here)
A must have for lunch boxes. We use two on each side to make sure everything stays cold enough until lunch time.
Muffin Liners (click here)
Kids don’t like food touching? No problem- add these muffin liners to most bento boxes to divide up food. They’re also great for morning vitamins and small snacks during the day.
Snack Organizer Bins for Pantry (click here)
One of my favorite pantry organizers. Bars, apple sauce pouches, crackers, pretty much most snacks fit well in these.
You've tried everything...
Many of my clients come to me because they have tried to declutter and feel like a failure because nothing has worked. They have tried all the things and even maybe hired an organizer to come into their home.
Nothing has worked!
Let me tell you about a client who was frustrated and overwhelmed trying to keep up with her son's school work and schedule. Papers would pile on the counter and table and she couldn't keep track of the assignments and activities for her kindergartener.
After working with me and creating a custom command center together, she could finally have a home for all the school papers and a calendar for her son's schedule. Gathering school supplies became easier each morning and saved so much time! She felt more calm and less stress.
"Having a command center has been a game changer for my family. When my son started kindergarten I was overwhelmed with homework, scheduling, and keeping everyone in the household on the same page. Allison helped me find the right products and how to use them most effectively in the space we had."
As you can see, decluttering your home can have a ripple effect into your emotional and mental health. Studies show that decreasing your physical clutter can actually decrease stress, overwhelm, anxiety, and depression.
If you’re ready to decrease the physical AND mental clutter in your life then I'm here for YOU!
