If you’ve ever heard the phrase “ADHD is your superpower” and thought, “Yeah, right…” you’re not alone. When you're surrounded by clutter and overwhelmed by daily tasks, it’s hard to see your traits as anything but frustrating. But what if those same traits could become tools that actually help you?
In this episode of The Gentle Reset, I’m exploring a different take on the “ADHD superpower” conversation. You’ll learn how to reframe frustrating traits, why body doubling works, and how one client reclaimed her home office... without trying to be perfect.
What “ADHD Superpower” Really Means
When people say “ADHD is your superpower,” it can feel confusing or frustrating... especially if your brain is overwhelmed, your kitchen table is buried, and you're just trying to make it through the day.
But here's a different perspective:
A superpower is something deeply ingrained
you do exceptionally well... often without even realizing it.
That could be:
Creative thinking
Deep empathy
Fast problem-solving
The problem is… when those traits are unsupported, they feel more like a struggle than a strength.
The shift starts when we stop trying to fix or hide these traits and instead start supporting them in a way that actually works.
5 ADHD Traits That Secretly Hold Strength
When I asked over 50 ADHD women what felt most frustrating in their home life, these five traits came up again and again:
Hyperfocus
Squirrel brain
Transitions
Task paralysis
Big emotions
These traits may feel like weaknesses right now, but with the right awareness and support, each of them has the potential to become a strength.
Want to know which one shows up most in your life? That’s exactly what I walk clients through inside my coaching programs using the ADHD Superpower Quiz.
I’ll be sharing more on each of these five traits in upcoming blog posts...be sure to check back soon so you don’t miss them!
Support Is a Strategy- Not a Shortcut
Many ADHD women I coach carry this belief:
"I should be able to do this on my own.”
But guess what?
Just because something’s hard alone doesn’t mean you’re failing. It just means you need a system that works with your brain.
Body doubling is one of the most effective tools for ADHD... whether it’s:
A friend on Zoom
A co-working session
Listening to a podcast while you do dishes
The magic isn’t in doing more... it’s in not doing it alone.
That’s also why coaching can be so transformative. It’s not just strategies... it’s support tailored to you, your home, and your brain. A coach is someone in your pocket cheering you on every step of the way. They believe in you more than you believe in yourself.
A Real-Life Reset: From Overwhelmed to Proud
One of my clients, a mom and business owner, used to avoid her home office. Her desk was buried, cube shelves overflowing, and paper piles had taken over.
We worked virtually to:
Simplify her filing system
Rearrange furniture for better flow
Reset the shelves into functional zones
Two months later, she said something I’ll never forget:
💬 “I now have a baseline for my office. I clear my desk every night. I’m so proud of myself.”
That’s the power of small, intentional steps. Not Pinterest-perfect. Just functional and finally sustainable.
Key Takeaways
Your ADHD traits aren’t flaws... they can become your greatest strengths
You don’t need to change who you are to make your space work.
Body doubling and coaching are powerful ways to get unstuck.
