ADHD-Friendly Holiday Organization

Updated: Mar 29

If you have ADHD and you're feeling the weight of gift lists, wrapping chaos, and the pressure to make the holidays feel magical for everyone... then keep reading. With a few ADHD-friendly shifts, your holiday prep can feel more manageable and more enjoyable.

In this episode of The Gentle Reset, I’m sharing simple ways to take pressure off your holiday to-do list and make space for more calm. You’ll learn how I prep for gift wrapping and Christmas morning in a way that supports my energy and brain... and how you can do the same.

Why Holiday Pressure Hits Harder with ADHD

This season comes with a lot of pressure... especially for moms with ADHD.

The pressure to:

  • Make everything special and magical

  • Keep up with ALL the traditions

Even when you're exhausted.

But here’s what most moms don’t say out loud....most of us are carrying expectations we never agreed to.

Some come from childhood.

Some come from comparison.

Some come from that picture-perfect version of the holidays we see online.

And for ADHD brains, that pressure feels super heavy.

Instead of putting so much pressure on yourself this season...

I want you to remember this:

A good-enough holiday is still a meaningful holiday.

Your kids will remember the feeling of the season, not the Pinterest version.

You don’t have to do everything.

You don’t have to burn out trying.

When "good enough" is the goal, you can actually enjoy this time of year.

Two Simple Home Setups That Make a Big Difference

If wrapping and Christmas morning usually feel scattered and chaotic...

Here are two small shifts that have helped us so much:

1. Set Up a Wrapping Station

This doesn’t need to be pretty. It just needs to work.

Pick a spot...closet floor, laundry room corner, bin in your room and gather your basics:

  • Wrapping paper

  • Tape

  • Scissors

  • Gift bags

  • Tissue paper

  • Tags or a Sharpie

Having everything in one place means no more running around last minute searching for tape. Huge win!

2. Create a Christmas Morning Caddy

This one is a game-changer.

Grab a caddy or bin (Dollar Store has simple, affordable ones!) and load it with:

  • Scissors

  • Tape

  • Extra batteries

  • Small screwdriver

  • Trash bags

  • Pen for labeling

Let me know which ones work well for you!

A Personal Shift That Changed Our Holiday

A few years ago, I started using one small bin per kid for stocking stuffers and small gifts. Anytime I bought something, I tossed it in their bin. No more wondering what I had or digging through bags.

📌Bonus tip: I number each gift and keep a quick list in my phone that matches numbers to what's inside. The kids get to unwrap in a fun order and it keeps my brain more organized.

These tiny shifts helped Christmas morning feel calmer and way less chaotic.
